New to virtual schooling?
In a virtual school, there is a very close partnership between home and school. Your involvement is crucial to the success of your child. Below is the basic information you need to get started.
Thank you for your extensive partnership with us! We could not do this without you!
Part of your child's day will be spent doing asynchronous learning. These learning opportunities are found in your child’s workspace. Ensure your child knows where to access them. Depending upon their age, they may need support to pick an activity.
Going outside for an activity, or learning that doesn’t involve technology is also suggested during this portion of their day. Read a great book, go to the library, take swimming lessons, research a Passion Project are some examples. Need help? Ask your educator.
Be sure to balance English and FSL asynchronous learning, at minimum, in the following way:
Kinder: an hour a day
Gr 1-3 or 4-6 ext: 75 min/week OR 15 min/ day
Junior Immersion: 38 min/day
The age of your child will determine how involved you need to be to support their learning during the school day.
Monitor them but let your child learn independently and do the work themselves.
Feel free to provide feedback at certain points in their learning journey but not continuously. They learn more when they make mistakes.
Consider starting and finishing each day with a simple check in to help them organize and set learning priorities.
Restorative Practices students are actively involved, repair relationships and work towards making better choices.

Responsible Use of Technology Form
Each OCSB student needs a completed Responsible Use of Technology form. There is a portion for both parents & students to “sign” in our Parent Portal. Our students are on technology for a large portion of their day and this form will help ensure they understand what they need to do to be responsible users. Another excellent resources is our Samaritans on the Digital Road resource to help develop Digital Citizenship.
